Western Team
The Washington College Western Team competes in approximately ten Zone 3, Region 2 IHSA shows each semester. For the western shows, the levels range from beginner walk/jog classes all the way up to Open Reining and Open Horsemanship for the more experienced riders. Lessons are required if you are showing with at least one lesson the week of a show. You are placed in a class by coach’s evaluation depending on your past riding/showing experience. You then begin to class up as you accumulate point from placing. The point system also dictates whether or not a rider qualifies for Regionals, Sectionals, and finally Nationals.
The team provides an excellent outlet for riders who have ridden all of their lives and want to continue in college or those who have never ridden before, but are interested in learning the sport. If you have any questions at all regarding the western team or western shows, feel free to email, Staci Banks, the Western Team Captain.
